St Kitts and Nevis Passport Renewal Ultimate Guide: Process, Form, Fees, and Timing

13 min

St Kitts and Nevis passport renewal usually takes around 2 months. From April 2026, investors need to complete biometric enrolment, which requires a fee of $2,500 and must be arranged through an Authorised Agent.

This guide explains when to renew a St Kitts and Nevis passport, what documents are required, how biometric enrolment works, how much the process costs, and how to replace a lost, stolen, or damaged passport.

St Kitts and Nevis passport renewal essentials

The St Kitts and Nevis passport is issued to citizens of the Federation. Investors who obtain nationality through the Citizenship by Investment, CBI, programme receive the same passport as any other national.

Citizenship status is permanent, but the passport expires and must be renewed to preserve full travel rights. Renewal usually takes around 2 months.

Passport validity periods

St Kitts and Nevis passports are valid for:

  • 5 years from the date of issue, or 10 years if the holder completes biometric enrolment in St Kitts and Nevis and meets the required conditions — for adults aged 16 and over;
  • 5 years from the date of issue — for children under 16. If a child turns 16 before the next renewal, the new passport will be issued for the adult validity period.

Second passports will be issued for 10 years.

Biometric passport requirement

Since November 2024, St Kitts and Nevis has issued biometric passports with embedded chipsSource: St Kitts Nevis Information Service — Government to Implement New ePassport and Becomes Newest Member of ICAO PKD. Since March 2026, holding a biometric passport became obligatory. All citizens, including CBI passport holders, are required to complete biometric enrolment and obtain biometric passports by July 31st, 2027. Biometric enrolment will be required for each passport renewal.

For passports expiring in 2026 or 2027, holders need to factor in the biometric enrolment requirement. If renewal is due before the July 31st, 2027 deadline, combining passport renewal with biometric enrolment is the most efficient optionSource: Citizenship by Investment Unit, St Kitts and Nevis — Biometric Enrolment.

Renewal timing

Investors are advised to start the renewal process 6 months before the passport expires. Many countries require at least 6 months of remaining passport validity for entry, visa applications, or residence permit renewals.

Early submission leaves time for standard processing, possible document corrections, and courier delivery if the holder applies from abroad.

Certificate of Naturalisation issuance

A St Kitts and Nevis passport can be renewed only if the holder proves their citizenship status. For CBI citizens, this proof is the Certificate of Naturalisation, also called a Certificate of RegistrationSource: St Kitts and Nevis Ministry of Foreign Affairs — Application for ePassport.

The certificate remains valid for life and does not expire. It serves as the legal basis for all future passport renewals; the Passport Office cannot process a renewal without it.

The certificate needs to be updated or replaced only in two cases:

  1. Name change: the certificate must reflect the new legal name before or during passport renewal.
  2. Loss of the certificate: the holder must request a replacement, which costs $2,200.

Investors should keep the original certificate in a secure place, separate from the passport, to avoid losing both key documents at once. A certified copy can also be kept with the Authorised Agent or legal representative.

First passport issuance after St Kitts and Nevis CBI approval

The first St Kitts and Nevis passport is issued after the investor passes Due Diligence, receives approval, submits biometrics, and makes the investment. Once the Citizenship by Investment Unit confirms that the funds have been credited, passport issuance can beginSource: Citizenship by Investment Unit, St Kitts and Nevis — Application Process.

Under the standard procedure, the first passport is issued within 2 weeks of the investment being credited. This timeline includes the release of the Certificate of Registration and National Identity Card number.

Before issuance, the principal applicant must collect the Certificate of Registration, either at an approved embassy or consulate abroad, or in St Kitts and Nevis.

How to replace a lost, stolen, or damaged St Kitts and Nevis passport

Replacing a lost, stolen, or damaged St Kitts and Nevis passport is different from a standard renewal. Before the Passport Office can issue a replacement, the investor must formally report what happened and provide evidence of the loss, theft, or damageSource: St Kitts and Nevis Ministry of Foreign Affairs — Application for ePassport.

Steps after passport loss or theft

Once the passport holder discovers that the document is missing, they should act immediately:

  1. File a police report in the country where the loss or theft occurred.
  2. Notify the St Kitts and Nevis Passport Office, the nearest High Commission, or an Authorised Agent.
  3. Prepare the affidavit, Passport Recovery Form, and standard replacement documents.

The replacement fee is $1,350 for CBI passport holders. The process usually takes up to 2 months, provided the application is complete and accepted by the Passport Office.

Replacement document checklist

In addition to the standard renewal documents, the applicant must submit:

  1. Police report: a report filed with the local police authority confirming the loss or theft.
  2. Notarised affidavit: a sworn statement explaining how the passport was lost, stolen, or damaged.
  3. Passport Recovery Form: the replacement form required by the Passport Office.
  4. Standard renewal documents: the birth certificate, citizenship certificate, photographs, and other documents listed in the renewal checklist.

Immigrant Invest assists with the replacement process, including preparing the required documents, arranging notarisation, and coordinating with the authorities in St Kitts and Nevis.

How to renew a St Kitts and Nevis passport after a name change

A name change due to marriage, divorce, or deed poll requires St Kitts and Nevis passport renewal. The process is similar to standard renewal but needs extra forms and, if the change occurred abroad, prior recognition by St Kitts and Nevis authorities.

Recognition of a foreign name change

A name change registered outside St Kitts and Nevis cannot be added to a new passport automatically. The holder must first obtain approval from the authorities of St Kitts and Nevis, which assess whether the foreign name change is valid under the Federation’s laws.

Recognition of the foreign name change must be completed before the passport renewal application is submitted. Applicants need official proof, such as a foreign court order, marriage certificate, or deed poll. Documents must be translated into English and certified where required.

Documents and cost for name-change renewal

In addition to the standard renewal checklist, the applicant must provide:

  • government name-change application forms;
  • marriage certificate or official name-change document, with a certified English translation if applicable;
  • previous passport in the old name;
  • Certificate of Naturalisation in the previous name.

The indicative cost for a name-change passport renewal for an applicant aged 16 or over is about $4,000. Processing takes up to 2 months, and the whole process can be completed remotely.

Biometric enrolment for St Kitts and Nevis CBI passport holders

St Kitts and Nevis now requires citizens who obtained nationality through the CBI programme to complete biometric enrolment and receive a biometric passport. The requirement forms part of the National Biometric Enrolment and Passport Modernisation Programme, administered by the Citizenship by Investment Unit, CIUSource: Citizenship by Investment Unit, St Kitts and Nevis — National Biometric Enrolment and Passport Modernisation Programme.

Key dates and enforcement

The biometric enrolment timeline for CBI passport holders is as follows:

  1. April 14th, 2026: the programme officially launched. Authorised Agents got access to the biometrics system.
  2. April 20th, 2026: the booking portal opened and in-person enrolment started at the Citizenship Unit Office in Basseterre. Applicants can schedule appointments through the booking portal.
  3. May 1st, 2027: international biometric enrolment began through government-designated service providers in Asia, the UAE, and other consular network locations.
  4. July 31st, 2027: all CBI citizens and dependants must complete biometric enrolment.

After July 31st, 2027, passports issued through the CBI programme before April 14th, 2026, will be deactivated and will no longer be valid for international travel. Citizenship status will not be affected, but the holder will be unable to travel until enrolment is completed and a new biometric passport is issued.

Based on the latest available information, biometric enrolment is expected to remain part of the passport renewal process. This means that St Kitts and Nevis passport holders should be prepared to provide biometric data not only when obtaining the new biometric passport, but also during future renewals.

Enrolment process

Biometric enrolment is mandatory for all CBI citizens, including dependants and children registered under original or later applications.

Enrolment must be arranged through an Authorised Agent and completed only through the official Government of St Kitts and Nevis Biometric Enrolment Platform. Individual citizens cannot access the system independently, and other providers or platforms are prohibited.

Before finalising an appointment, all citizens must:

  • watch a mandatory civic education video on the history and values of the Federation;
  • complete a questionnaire to confirm they have processed the information.

At the enrolment appointment, all applicants undergo a facial scan and have a digital photograph taken. Applicants over 16 must also submit fingerprints.

Where biometrics can be collected

Biometrics can be collected at the Citizenship Unit Office in Basseterre, through government-designated service providers in Asia and the UAE, and at additional locations across the St Kitts and Nevis consular network as they become available.

Examples of current locations include:

  • China: Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Beijing;
  • Canada: Ottawa and Toronto;
  • United Kingdom: London;
  • UAE: Abu Dhabi Embassy and Dubai AI Jawharah BuildingSource: St. Kitts and Nevis Embassy UAE.

St Kitts and Nevis citizenship applicants can also submit biometrics in Istanbul, which makes the process more convenient for investors based in Türkiye, the Gulf, MENA, and CIS countries.

Once the passports are issued, they are delivered to the client by post.

Artur, an Armenian investor living in Dubai with his wife and 2 children, had to complete biometric enrolment for the family’s St Kitts and Nevis passports before July 31st, 2027.

Immigrant Invest registered the family on the official government platform, booked an appointment, and accompanied them on the day. The family used a private VIP lounge and only needed their passports and appointment confirmation.

All 4 family members submitted a digital photo, fingerprints, and digital signatures in under 30 minutes. Immigrant Invest then monitored the new passport issuance and arranged courier delivery.

What documents are required to renew a St Kitts and Nevis passport?

A standard St Kitts and Nevis passport renewal requires original documents. Where specified, certified or notarised copies may also be needed, especially when applying from abroadSource: St Kitts and Nevis Ministry of Foreign Affairs — Application for ePassport.

For a standard renewal, applicants need:

  1. Completed passport application form, written in capital letters in blue ink or typed in black ink.
  2. Original expiring or expired passport.
  3. Original birth certificate, with an English translation if needed.
  4. Original Certificate of Citizenship or Certificate of Registration, or legible certified copies if originals cannot be released.
  5. Two recent passport-sized photos, 35 × 45 mm, taken within the last 6 months and signed on the reverse by a Recommender.

Additional documents required in specific cases

Additional documents may be required depending on the applicant’s age, submission method, renewal reason, or file review outcome:

  • proxy applicants: written authorisation from the passport holder, a copy of the holder’s valid ID, and the complete document package;

  • review cases: extra certified documents if the Passport Office finds discrepancies or incomplete records.

How much does it cost to renew a St Kitts and Nevis passport?

The main cost CBI passport holders should factor in is the biometric enrolment fee, which may apply at each 10-year passport renewal.

Biometric enrolment costs:

  • investor — $2,500;
  • additional adults in the same family, aged 16 or over, — $2,000 each;
  • children under 16 — $1,300 each.

The final cost may also include courier delivery, consular handling fees, document certification, translations, and Authorised Agent service fees, depending on where the applicant submits the documents and how the passport is delivered.

1

Up to 1 week

Prepare the documents

Before submission, we help check that all renewal documents are complete and up to date. This includes the passport, birth certificate, citizenship certificate, photos, and any police record if required.

If a document needs a certified English translation, it is better to allow extra time before submission.

2

1 day

Book biometric enrolment

CBI passport holders who have not yet completed biometric enrolment need to book an appointment through an Authorised Agent via the official Government of St Kitts and Nevis Biometric Enrolment Platform. Government fees are also paid via the Platform at this stage.

3

1 day

Attend the biometric appointment

At the appointment, adult applicants provide fingerprints and complete a facial scan. Children provide a photograph. The data is used for the biometric passport chip in line with ICAO standards.

4

Same day

Submit the application and pay fees

After biometric enrolment and document preparation, the renewal application is submitted through the chosen channel:

  • Passport Office in St Kitts and Nevis;
  • St Kitts and Nevis consular mission, such as the High Commission in London or the Consulate General in Toronto[7];
  • Authorised Agent.
5

Up to 2 months

Receive the new passport

Processing takes up to 2 months after the Passport Office accepts a complete application. Once the passport is ready, the consulate, High Commission, or Authorised Agent notifies Immigrant Invest.

We then arrange secure courier delivery to the investor’s designated address, so the renewal can usually be completed without travelling to St Kitts and Nevis.

What are the risks when renewing a St Kitts and Nevis passport?

Even straightforward St Kitts and Nevis passport renewals can be delayed by avoidable errors. The main risks are document mistakes and timing failures. Understanding both helps holders prepare a clean application and avoid costly resubmissions.

Timing and biometric risks

St Kitts and Nevis passport renewal is best started at least 6 months before expiry. An expired passport cannot be used for travel and may also block visa applications, residence permit renewals, and banking compliance checks.

St Kitts and Nevis CBI holders also need to plan biometric enrolment early. Appointment slots at international locations may become limited closer to the July 31st, 2027 deadline. If the passport expires in 2026 or 2027, renewal and biometric enrolment are best planned together to avoid duplicate steps and travel restrictions.

Lyle Julien

Lyle Julien,

Investment programmes expert

An expired passport creates a chain reaction: the holder cannot board flights or cross borders, visa applications may be refused, residence permit renewals can stall, and banks or compliance teams may reject the document as valid proof of identity.

Application and document risks

St Kitts and Nevis passport applications are often returned or delayed because of simple mistakes:

  • photographs: incorrect size, old photos, blurred images, or photos not endorsed by a Recommender;
  • foreign documents: birth certificates or name-change documents not translated into English or not certified;
  • copies instead of originals: the Passport Office usually requires original documents;
  • application form: blank fields, lowercase entries, pencil, or the wrong ink colour;
  • police record: missing police record where required.

Police clearance certificates and other mandatory documents have limited validity. For family renewals, each member’s document expiry dates need to be tracked separately to avoid retaking documents before submission.

Extra checks for complex CBI files

Some renewal cases need additional preparation if the holder’s circumstances have changed since the original CBI application. This may apply after a name change, prior US, UK, or Canadian visa refusals, complex corporate structures, income from business sales, or assets in restricted banking jurisdictions.

The Passport Office or CIU may request extra documents to confirm identity, source of funds, or file consistency. If the response is incomplete or delayed, the renewal timeline can extend beyond the usual processing period.

Frequently asked questions

  • When do I need to renew my St Kitts and Nevis passport?

    A St Kitts and Nevis passport should be renewed at least 6 months before it expires. This buffer allows time for processing and helps meet the passport validity rules used by many countries for entry, visas, and residence permit renewals.

  • What is the biometrics deadline for St Kitts and Nevis CBI passport holders?

    St Kitts and Nevis citizenship by investment holders must complete biometric enrolment by July 31st, 2027. The programme launched on April 14th, 2026, and appointment booking opened on April 20th, 2026. After the deadline, non-compliant CBI passports will be deactivated for international travel.

  • Do I need to re-enrol biometrics every time I renew my St Kitts and Nevis passport?

    Biometric requirements may apply when a St Kitts and Nevis passport is renewed. Based on the latest available guidance, passport holders should be prepared to complete biometric checks as part of the renewal process.

    The requirement may become relevant at each 10-year renewal, although the exact procedure will depend on the rules in force at the time.

  • What documents are required to renew a St Kitts and Nevis passport?

    A St Kitts and Nevis passport renewal requires:

    • completed application form;
    • original expiring or expired passport;
    • original birth certificate with certified English translation if needed;
    • Certificate of Citizenship or Registration;
    • two recent endorsed passport photos;
    • police record where applicable.

    Extra documents may be needed for minors, proxy submissions, or name changes.

  • How much does St Kitts and Nevis passport renewal cost?

    St Kitts and Nevis passport renewal for Citizenship by Investment holders now includes biometric enrolment. Applicants should budget for the biometric fee:

    • $2,500 for the first adult;
    • $2,000 for each additional adult in the same family;
    • $1,300 for each child under 16.

    Extra costs may include police clearance, courier delivery, consular handling, and Authorised Agent service fees. Applicants should request an itemised estimate before submission.

  • Can I renew a St Kitts and Nevis passport while living abroad or through a proxy?

    At the moment, a St Kitts and Nevis passport renewal cannot be completed through a proxy, as biometric enrolment is expected to form part of each renewal. This means the passport holder should be prepared to appear in person at an approved biometric enrolment location.

    An Authorised Agent or representative may help prepare and submit the document package, but the biometric stage requires the applicant’s personal attendance. Once the passport is issued, it can be delivered to the client by secure courier or post.

  • What should I do if my St Kitts and Nevis passport is lost or stolen?

    A lost or stolen St Kitts and Nevis passport should be reported to the police immediately in the country where the loss or theft occurred. The holder then contacts the nearest High Commission, Consulate, or Authorised Agent to start replacement.

    The package includes standard renewal documents, a notarised affidavit, a police report, and the Passport Recovery Form.

  • How do I renew a St Kitts and Nevis passport after a name change?

    A St Kitts and Nevis passport after a name change is renewed with additional government forms and supporting documents. If the change occurred abroad, St Kitts and Nevis authorities must first recognise it.

    Required documents include the marriage certificate or official name-change document, certified English translation if needed, previous passport, and Certificate of Naturalisation in the previous name. The name-change renewal costs about $4,000.

  • Should I renew the Certificate of Naturalisation when renewing a St Kitts and Nevis passport?

    No, a St Kitts and Nevis Certificate of Naturalisation does not need routine renewal when the passport is renewed. It is valid for life. The certificate only needs action if the holder changes their legal name or loses the original document.

  • How long does St Kitts and Nevis passport renewal take, and how long is the passport valid?

    St Kitts and Nevis passport renewal usually takes up to 2 months after a complete application is accepted. Adult passports are valid for 5 years, or 10 years if the holder completes biometric enrolment in St Kitts and Nevis and meets the required conditions. Children’s passports are valid for 5 years.

    Second passports are issued with a 10-year validity period.

  • Can I travel on an expired St Kitts and Nevis passport?

    No, an expired St Kitts and Nevis passport cannot be used for international travel. Citizenship by investment holders also face a separate risk after July 31st, 2027: passports issued before April 14th, 2026, will be deactivated if biometric enrolment has not been completed, even if the printed expiry date has not passed.

  • Can St Kitts and Nevis citizenship holders have dual citizenship?

    St Kitts and Nevis citizenship holders can have dual citizenship because the country permits it. CBI citizens are not required by St Kitts and Nevis to renounce their original nationality, but they should check whether their other country of citizenship allows dual nationality.

  • What happens if a St Kitts and Nevis citizenship by investment holder misses the July 2027 biometric deadline?

    A St Kitts and Nevis citizenship by investment holder who misses the July 31st, 2027 biometric deadline may have their pre-April 14th, 2026 passport deactivated for international travel. Citizenship remains valid, but the holder cannot travel internationally until enrolment is completed and a new biometric passport is issued.

  • How is St Kitts and Nevis passport renewal different for children?

    St Kitts and Nevis passport renewal for children is required more often because children’s passports are valid for 5 years. A minor’s renewal package also includes parents’ passports or certified copies, the child’s birth certificate, and Certificate of Registration. Under biometric enrolment rules, children provide a photograph but not fingerprints.
