About Cyprus

An island state in the Middle East in the Mediterranean Sea. Foreigners come to Cyprus to relax on the beaches of Larnaca, Paphos, Limassol and other resorts, to see the sights - for example, Kolossi Castle and Aphrodite's Bay.

Cyprus is a member of the European Union, so its citizens can live in any state of this association. Investors can obtain permanent residence for the purchase of real estate or securities, and after five years of residence on the island, apply for citizenship.

  • 1

Residence in Cyprus or other EU country

Cyprus is a member of the European Union. Citizenship of this country allows you to live on its territory or choose to move to another European state. You will not need a residence permit in another EU country, only register after three months of residence.

  • 2

    Access to 174 countries

A Cyprus passport provides visa-free entry to the Schengen Area, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia and other countries.

  • 3

Education and medical treatment in the European Union

It is easier for a child with a Cyprus passport to enroll in a university in another EU state. Studying will cost less than it would be for a citizen of a non-EU country. In addition, citizens of Cyprus receive benefits for medical treatment in their own country and other EU countries.

  • 4

    Work and international business

The Cyprus passport allows you to open a company in this country or another European country. You won’t need to obtain residence or work permits in advance for a job in the European Union.

Frequently asked questions

  • How do I get a Cyprus passport?

Citizenship of Cyprus is obtained by right of blood or land, as well as by marriage or naturalisation.

To obtain citizenship of Cyprus by naturalisation, you must have lived in the country for at least seven years and have no criminal record. During the last year before applying, it is important not to travel outside the country.

A Cyprus passport can also be obtained three years after marriage, assuming you’ve been living in the country for at least two years.

Cyprus citizenship cannot be obtained by investment. The country has a permanent residence program for investors: applicants first receive a residence permit, and after five years — citizenship.

  • How much to spend to get permanent residence in Cyprus by investment?

Cyprus offers investors four options to obtain permanent residence in Cyprus: purchase of residential or commercial real estate, shares of Cypriot companies or investment fund units. The investment amount for each of the options starts from €300,000.

  • Does Cyprus recognise second citizenship?

Yes, citizens of Cyprus can have multiple citizenship, as long as it does not contradict the laws of other countries.

  • How to live in Cyprus with citizenship of another country?

Cyprus is a member of the European Union, so you can move there using a simplified procedure with a passport of one of the countries of this union — like, Portugal or Malta.

  • Who can obtian citizenship of Cyprus by birthright?

Citizenship of Cyprus can be obtained by right of blood — if the child was born to citizens of the country.

The Cyprus Citizenship Act also has other options for obtaining a passport by descent. The procedures depend on the nationality of the parents, the year and place of birth of the child. The applicant only needs to choose the appropriate option. A citizen of the United Kingdom or its colonies who was born in Cyprus between November 5, 1914 and August 16, 1960 and resided in Cyprus for five years prior to August 16, 1960 can obtain citizenship of Cyprus by right of land.
