On June 2nd—4th, 2026, Barcelona, Spain, hosted the 9th edition of IMI Connect. The event brought together investment migration professionals for closed-door discussions, networking, and industry debate.

Immigrant Invest attended the event to exchange views with colleagues, discuss current trends in global mobility, and strengthen professional connections across the market.

During the productive three-day event, 120 leaders in investment migration, global mobility, residence and citizenship planning, real estate, and related advisory services exchanged views on the changes shaping residence and citizenship programmes.

IMI Connect Barcelona combined structured industry debate with informal networking across several venues in the city. The programme included a welcome cocktail, private discussions, lunch, dinner with the traditional IMI trivia, and a final networking format with city views.

Highlights of IMI Connect Barcelona

IMI Connect Barcelona was held over three days, with each part of the programme designed for a different format of professional exchange.

The first day opened with the IMI Connect Welcome Cocktail at the Volta Restaurant. It gave participants an informal setting to meet before the main sessions, reconnect with colleagues, and start conversations about current changes in the investment migration market.

The second day was the main conference day. Participants first joined at the Hotel Miramar for lunch and industry discussions on recent developments in global mobility and the future of residence and citizenship planning. After the sessions, participants continued the conversation at the traditional IMI Dinner with Trivia.

The third day focused mainly on networking. The programme took place on the historic Rooftop Garden of the Hotel El Palace with views of Barcelona, which created a more relaxed environment for meetings with colleagues, partners, and other industry professionals. The format helped participants continue discussions from the previous day and strengthen professional connections across the market.

Key topics discussed at IMI Connect Barcelona

A central theme of the event was the changing position of investment migration in a more regulated global environment. Industry professionals discussed how governments, clients, advisors, developers, and compliance teams respond to new rules and higher expectations for transparency.

Portugal and the recent changes to the country’s citizenship legislation was one of the most discussed topics. The discussion centered on how allowing Golden Visa investors to obtain citizenship within 5 years instead of the newly-introduced 10-year requirement could significantly benefit both the Golden Visa programme and the Portuguese economy.

Other topics included the wider future of global mobility, the direction of residence and citizenship programmes, and the role of professional standards in the investment migration market.
