Dominica Citizenship for Family Members

Add eligible relatives to your citizenship application or obtain Dominica citizenship for family members after you have become a citizen. Immigrant Invest assesses eligibility, helps prepare the documents, and manages the procedure.

Who can be included as a family member

The Dominica citizenship by investment programme allows an investor to include eligible relatives in the original application. Certain family members may also apply after the investor has already obtained citizenship.

During the citizenship application process

The main applicant may include the following family members in a single citizenship application:

  • legally married spouse;
  • biological or legally adopted child under 18;
  • child aged 18 to 30 who attends a recognised higher education institution and is fully supported by the main applicant or the spouse;
  • unmarried daughter under 25 who lives with and is fully supported by the main applicant or the spouse;
  • child aged 18 or over who has a physical or mental disability and is fully supported by the main applicant or the spouse;
  • parent or grandparent of the main applicant or the spouse who is over 65 and substantially supported by them.

After citizenship approval

The Dominica citizenship by investment regulations do not set a general deadline for submitting a post-citizenship application for an eligible family member. However, the timing may affect the government contribution. A contribution for Dominica citizenship for a family is lower if the application is made within 1 year after the main applicant receives a passport.

New spouse and children. The main applicant may apply to include:

  • spouse whom the main applicant married after submitting the original citizenship application;
  • biological or legally adopted child under 18 who was born or adopted after the main applicant obtained citizenship.

A child born or adopted after citizenship may be registered as a naturalised citizen without a separate government contribution. A new spouse is subject to the applicable government contribution and other programme fees.

Existing family members. The investor may apply for a family member who met the age and dependency requirements when the original citizenship application was submitted.

This includes an eligible child, a spouse to whom the investor was already married, or an eligible parent or grandparent. A relative who became eligible only after the original application was submitted cannot use this route.

Dependants aged 16 or over are subject to the Due Diligence checks and mandatory interview. If the post-citizenship application is submitted more than 1 year after the original citizenship application date, renewed Due Diligence on the investor is also required.

5 benefits of Dominica passport for family members

  • 1

    Greater freedom to travel

    Each approved family member becomes a citizen of Dominica in their own right and can travel without being accompanied by the principal investor. Dominica grants visa-free access to 160 countries.

  • 2

    Secure Plan B

    Dominica citizenship gives the family the right to live, work, and study in the country. Investors and their relatives may relocate there if their personal, economic, or political circumstances change.

  • 3

    No requirement to relocate

    Dominica does not require investors or their family members to live in or visit the country before or after receiving citizenship. Relatives may retain their usual place of residence while holding Dominica citizenship.

  • 4

    Support for future family changes

    Dominica citizenship can accommodate changes in the applicant’s family. The investor may obtain citizenship for a child born or legally adopted later, or for a spouse married after the original application was submitted.

  • 5

    Lifelong status without renewals

    Dominica citizenship does not require periodic renewal. Once approved, family members retain their citizenship for life, while only their passports need to be renewed when they expire.

Cost of adding family members to the Dominica application

The total cost of adding a family member after citizenship has been granted consists of the applicable government contribution, as well as additional administrative, Due Diligence, interview, and professional fees.

Government fees

Government fees depend on the family member’s relationship to the investor and how much time has passed since citizenship was grantedSource: Dominica Citizenship by Investment Unit: Commonwealth of Dominica Citizenship by Investment Regulations 2024.

Children. A child under 18 who was born or legally adopted after the main applicant obtained citizenship may be registered as a naturalised citizen of Dominica without a separate government contribution.

A child aged 18 or over may be added only if they already qualified as a dependant when the original citizenship application was submitted but were not included. In this case, the government contribution is:

  • $25,000 if the application is submitted within 1 year after the main applicant was granted citizenship;
  • $50,000 if the application is submitted later.

Spouse. The applicable contribution depends on whether the marriage took place before or after the original citizenship application was submitted.

For a new spouse whom the main applicant married after submitting the original application, the government contribution is $75,000.

For a spouse who was already married to the main applicant, the contribution is:

  • $50,000 if the post-citizenship application is submitted within one year after the main applicant was granted citizenship;
  • $75,000 if the application is submitted later.

Parents and grandparents. The government contribution for parents and grandparents omitted from the initial application are as follows:

  • $25,000 per dependant if the application is submitted within 1 year after the main applicant received citizenship;
  • $50,000 per dependant if the application is submitted later.

Additional expenses

Administrative, Due Diligence, and document fees are payable in addition to the applicable government contribution. These may include:

  • $1,000 — application processing fee;
  • $4,000 — Due Diligence fee for each applicant aged 16 or over;
  • $1,000 — interview fee;
  • $500 — for each certificate of naturalisation.

For applications submitted within 1 year after citizenship was granted, the $4,000 Due Diligence fee applies to dependants aged 16 or over. For later applications, the fee applies to each dependant.

If the post-citizenship application is submitted more than 1 year after the original citizenship application was submitted, the original main applicant must undergo renewed Due Diligence. The fee is $7,500.
