About Suriname
A state in the northeast of South America. It borders on Guyana, Brazil and French Guiana, washed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Suriname is the smallest state on the continent by area.
The basis of the economy of Suriname is the service sector, the extraction of bauxite, the export of aluminum, copper and gold. Foreign companies are helping to extract oil on the sea shelf, bauxite and gold. The country also exports timber, shrimp, fish, rice and bananas.
