The conference began on April 28th with welcoming speeches by Malcolm Becker, Branch Committee Member, and Anthony Cremona, Chairperson at STEP Malta. The keynote address was delivered by Hon Clyde Caruana, Minister for Finance of Malta.
Key topics of the first day. The opening presentation focused on the rising generation’s views on wealth, values, and global outlook. It also highlighted the role of advisors in supporting the rising generation and their parents.
Other topics discussed during the first day included the following:
matrimonial property regimes for international families;
latest developments in the EU anti-money laundering (AML) package and its future impact;
UK tax changes;
legal principles of foundations in Malta compared to other jurisdictions;
digital assets and the challenges they pose.
The first conference day concluded with a Gala Dinner at Villa Bighi in Kalkara.
Second day discussions. On April 29th, participants explored the following topics:
global estate planning for families and businesses, and the role of trusts, foundations, and private trust companies in this process;
relocation of high-net-worth individuals, available options, and countries offering such opportunities;
European Commission tax policy for 2024—2029, including potential updates and impacts for practitioners;
environmental, social, and governance (ESG) implications for fiduciaries.
The conference ended with a closing speech by Anthony Cremona and Farewell Drinks at Blue Elephant Restaurant at Hilton Malta.
