What documents prove the source of funds for the Italy Investor Visa?
The Investor Visa for Italy Committee requires four layers of evidence:
bank statement issued no earlier than 30 days before the application date, covering at least 3 months of activity;
Annex C — a letter from your bank declaring full FATF compliance (Recommendations 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 19, 20, 24, 25) and confirming the licit origin and free transferability of the funds;
Annex D — origin documentation, required if the funds have been in your account for less than 3 months (date, amount, source, recipient of each inflow);
Annex D.1 — an independent expert report by a qualified lawyer or accountant, also required when funds have been in the account for less than 3 months.
Documents not in Italian or English need certified translations. Get an exact list for your situation in the personalised cost calculation above.
How recent must my bank statement be for the Italy Golden Visa application?
It must be issued no earlier than 30 days before your application date and show at least 3 months of activity. Statements outside the 30-day window are returned for reissue and delay the entire Nulla Osta timeline.
If the statement is not in Italian or English, a certified translation is required.
Can I use cryptocurrency, business income, or a gift as a source of funds for the Italy Investor Visa?
Yes. The Investor Visa Committee accepts the following declared origins under Annex D: donation, sale of assets, revenues from economic activities, inheritance under a will, divorce settlement, lottery winnings. Cryptocurrency is accepted as long as the holdings can be converted to liquid funds in time to execute the investment within three months of entry to Italy.
For each source, you must show the date received, exact amount, provenance, and recipient. Annex D.1 — an independent expert report — is also required for any source where funds have been in the account for less than 3 months.
What if my funds were only recently transferred to my account?
If your investment funds have been in the account for less than 3 months, the Annex C bank letter is not enough on its own. You must also submit:
Annex D — origin documentation tracing the funds to a permitted source (gift, sale, business income, inheritance, divorce settlement, winnings);
Annex D.1 — a report from an independent expert (lawyer or accountant) confirming the legitimacy of those origins.
Without the Annex D + D.1 pair, the application will not pass Committee review.
My country does not issue a criminal record certificate. Can I still apply for the Italy Investor Visa?
Yes. The standard requirement (Annex E) is a criminal-record certificate from every country where you lived more than 12 consecutive months in the last 10 years. If your country of residence does not issue such certificates, you may submit a written declaration in Italian or English instead, stating the absence of convictions and pending charges. The Committee Secretariat will then consult the Italian embassy or consulate in your country and can grant a waiver based on local circumstances.
