The Caribbean Journal has named the best places to travel in the Caribbean. We tell you where to go for a luxury holiday, which hotels to stay at and where to go yachting in 2021.

The Caribbean Journal is an online publication that specialises in tourism and travel in the Caribbean. The journalists have been selecting the best destinations and celebrating prominent figures in the travel industry since 2013.

The Caribbean Travel Awards, an annual publication, is awarded in 20 categories. The full list of winners can be found on the magazine’s website.

Antigua and Barbuda: winner in three categories

The island of Antigua is home to two of the best all-inclusive hotels. Experts also noted the work of the country’s Ministry of Tourism after the first wave of the pandemic.

Curtain Bluff is the all-inclusive hotel of the year. The resort is located on the coast of Antigua Island and has been welcoming guests for over 50 years. The historic building has been completely refurbished. The hotel has 72 rooms with windows overlooking the sea. The hotel has a spa area, tennis courts, and water sports facilities. Instructors offer yoga and diving lessons.

Hammock Cove is the best small hotel in the all-inclusive category. The hotel opened on Antigua Island in 2019. It incorporates modern resort trends: detached villas instead of rooms, private pools and butler service. The hotel grounds are adjacent to Devil’s Bridge National Park. The restaurant serves Michelin-starred chef Marco Festini.

Charles Fernandez has been named Caribbean Tourism Minister of the Year. Antigua and Barbuda became the first country in the region to open the border to tourists. The government has imposed strict measures on hotels to ensure the safety of guests. The ministry also promotes the islands as a lucrative investment destination.

Foreign investors can invest from $200,000 in construction projects in Antigua and Barbuda. In doing so, they become participants in the government’s citizenship programme.

The country’s passport makes it possible to travel visa-free to 165 countries around the world, including Schengen states, the UK, Singapore and Hong Kong. The investor will also be able to travel to Antigua and Barbuda and relax for free in the hotel in which they have purchased a share, apartment or villa.

Grenada: the best destination for a luxury holiday

Grenada is actively developing a network of five-star hotels. The Silversand Resort, for example, offers island guests one of 43 luxurious rooms with sea views. There are villas for retreats, a spa complex and the longest outdoor pool in the Caribbean.

A five-star Kimpton Kawana Bay hotel is scheduled for completion in early 2021. The island will also host the region’s first resort from Six Senses, an international hotel chain known for its Oriental spas. The hotels are being built with funds from the Citizenship by Investment programme.

A foreigner can buy a share or an apartment in a hotel complex for from $220,000. In exchange for the investment, he receives a passport of the country and the opportunity to stay in the hotel for 10 days free of charge.

The Kimpton Kawana Bay Hotel has become one of the most popular projects of the Grenada citizenship programme in 2020. Around 75% of the apartments and shares have been sold and 512 investors have already received second passports for their investment in the hotel. We talked about it in the article: “Grenada and Dominica: which 2 hotels have become the best to participate in citizenship programmes for investment”.

Dominica: win Caribbean hotelier of the year nomination

The owner of Secret Bay Hotel Gregor Nassif has turned a small family project into a world-class resort. The hotelier was born and raised in Dominica, so he respects the island’s natural surroundings.

Secret Bay is the only hotel in Dominica to be Green Globe certified. The document confirms that environmentally friendly materials were used in the construction. The hotel’s villas are treehouses with windows overlooking the Caribbean Sea.

In 2020, Secret Bay was also voted ‘Best Hotel in Dominica’ by the World Travel Awards and was listed as one of the top 40 resorts in the Caribbean by Condé Nast Traveler. We talked about it in the article ‘Grenada and Dominica: which 2 hotels have become the best for citizenship programmes for investment’.

The hotel will be fully completed in 2022. Therefore, investors can still buy shares or villas in the project and take part in citizenship for the investment programme. In order to obtain a Dominica passport, one must invest from $200,000 in real estate.

The Government of Dominica is also working hard to ensure the safety of tourists and locals, their homes and investments. In December 2020, it developed a strategy in case of natural disasters such as hurricanes and flooding. The reserve for the protection and restoration of the island is about 2.8 billion dollars.

St Kitts and Nevis: the best place to yachting in the Caribbean

The Caribbean is a port nation that regularly hosts cruise ships and private yachts. In 2021 Christophe Harbour Marina in St Kitts and Nevis will become a major attraction for amateur and professional yachtsmen.

The marina consists of 250 modern berths, 50 of which are dedicated to superyachts. There is a customs centre within the marina with fast-track inspection procedures. The docks are secured 24 hours a day and yacht owners can use the berths at any time.

Only citizens of the country can register a yacht in Saint Kitts and Nevis. A foreigner can obtain citizenship under the state investment program. To become a member, you need to invest in the country’s economy from $ 150,000. The passport will be ready in 3-6 months.
